The Department of State Services, DSS, has arraigned 5 suspects earlier than the Imo State High Court over the October 1, 2026 abduction of 20 potential National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members in Imo State.
The suspects had been arrested throughout intelligence-led operations carried out between October 10 and 14, 2026, in Rivers and Abia states.
The suspects arraigned in courtroom are Mohammed Ali, Usman Aliyu, Babangida Aliyu, Ibrahim Jiji and Aminu Haliru.
It was earlier reported that operatives of the DSS, troopers and policemen arrested 5 suspected members of the prison gang that kidnapped 20 NYSC members in Imo State.
Other members of the gang had been stated to have fled with gunshot accidents through the operation launched in opposition to the suspected kidnappers, triggering safety businesses to accentuate efforts to trace them down.
DAILY POST experiences that the corps members had been travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their assigned NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when the incident occurred.
The incident prompted contemporary considerations over the protection of younger Nigerians travelling to start their nationwide service, notably these shifting throughout states to attend orientation camps.
Meanwhile, the 20 potential corps members and one other passenger had been ultimately rescued on October 7, 2026, throughout a coordinated safety operation at Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The victims, after their launch, had been taken to the DSS hospital in Owerri for medical consideration and vital checks.
