The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has rejected the N70,000 allowance supplied by the Federal Government and demanded a N300,000 salary.
This is contained in an announcement by the President of the TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, and the Secretary-General of the union, Comrade N. A. Toro, on Wednesday.
This was in response to the brand new allowance package deal of the Federal Government for employees.
The union stated that the N70,000 allowance isn’t lifelike and can’t deal with the current financial hardship being confronted by Nigerian employees.
It added that with the rising value of residing, excessive inflation and the elimination of gas subsidy, N70,000 is grossly insufficient.
The TUC, due to this fact, demanded N300,000 as a extra lifelike salary that can cushion the consequences of the financial hardship on employees.
It, due to this fact, issued a stern warning that it could not settle for something lower than N300,000, saying Nigerian employees deserve a greater deal.
The TUC stated that the federal government’s failure to maintain its guarantees has weakened confidence in agreements reached between labour unions and authorities.
“TUC then calls on governments at all levels to implement measurable interventions to reduce the cost of essential goods and services, ensure timely payment of salaries and pensions, protect existing jobs, curb exploitative labour practices and revitalize the productive sector to create decent employment,” it said.
The Federal Government has not reacted to the union’s demand as of the time of filing this report.
