United States President Donald Trump has proposed renaming the state of New Mexico to “New America,” claiming the title change would increase property values, enhance family incomes, and elevate the state’s nationwide status.
The proposal comes amid ongoing political commentary from the president relating to state-level governance and electoral processes.
Writing on his social media platform, Trump argued that the present title fails to precisely replicate the state’s identification as a part of the United States.
“New Mexico must immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America! This name would greatly increase the value and prestige of the state! Home values and incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder to honor our beautiful American flag! Perhaps even the unfair elections for which New Mexico is known would become fair again!” Trump wrote.
The suggestion has sparked contemporary on-line political debate over presidential commentary on state identities and administrative buildings.
