The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded particulars of how seven luxurious sport utility automobiles donated to youth leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been financed.
The opposition get together stated the automobiles, reportedly valued at about ₦1 billion, amounted to an extravagant show at a time when many Nigerians may barely afford requirements.
In a press release on Monday, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the ruling get together of placing its political pursuits forward of the financial difficulties Nigerians face.
“President Tinubu asks Nigerians to endure hardship while his party distributes luxury vehicles to its political operatives. Apparently, sacrifice is for ordinary Nigerians, while luxury is reserved for those working to keep the APC in power,” he stated.
“The APC has found the resources to move its campaign officials around Nigeria. What it has failed to find is a convincing way to make life affordable for the Nigerians whose votes it now seeks.”
Mr Abdullahi additionally criticised the choice to present automobiles for political mobilisation forward of the 2027 elections whereas many younger Nigerians remained unemployed.
“Seven APC youth leaders can receive luxury vehicles, but millions of young Nigerians are still waiting for the jobs, opportunities and economic relief they were promised. Is this the APC’s idea of youth empowerment?” he requested.
The ADC demanded disclosure of the supply of funding, together with whether or not public sources have been used.

“Nigerians deserve to know who paid for these vehicles. Until that question is answered, the ruling party cannot dismiss legitimate concerns about its priorities,” Mr Abdullahi stated.

The controversy adopted the presentation of seven Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs to APC youth leaders as a part of preparations for the 2027 basic elections.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu acknowledged donating automobiles to the APC youth wing to help grassroots mobilisation.
However, the precise value of the automobiles and the way they have been financed haven’t been independently established.
The ADC assertion didn’t present proof that public funds have been used to buy the automobiles.
